In Their Own Words

FH

Farah Hanisah

Data Analyst · Kuala Lumpur

"The mathematics course gave me something I did not expect — the ability to read papers without feeling immediately out of my depth. I had been avoiding anything with notation in it for years. That changed after week three."

Roshan Chandran

Software Engineer · Petaling Jaya

"The applied programme was genuinely demanding. There were weeks where I felt stretched, particularly during the data strategy phase. Looking back, that stretch was exactly the point. The mentor's written notes were consistently better than anything I have received in formal education."

Nor Liyana Md. Yusof

Policy Officer · Putrajaya

"I attended the evening series specifically because of the public sector session. The discussion was substantive — we covered procurement processes and accountability in a way that actually connected to decisions I face in my work. The reading list has been useful since."

Wong Kai Lun

Risk Manager · Kuala Lumpur

"I enrolled in the mathematics course with some hesitation — I was concerned the pace would not suit a full working week. It did. The weekly structure was manageable, and the feedback on my problem sets was clear and direct without being dismissive when I made errors."

Sakeena Rauf

Product Manager · Shah Alam

"The applied programme ran for sixteen weeks and my team produced something I was not certain we could. The scoping phase alone changed how I think about problem framing. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to move from reading about AI to actually building with it."

Jeevan Thiagarajan

Nurse Specialist · Klang Valley

"The healthcare session in the evening series was genuinely useful. The speaker was a practitioner, not someone speaking theoretically about what AI could do in clinics. The limitations discussion was the most valuable part — it gave me a vocabulary for the conversations I needed to have internally."

Journeys Through the Curriculum

From Mathematics to Production System

Finance sector · 8 months · Mathematics Course → Applied Programme

A credit analyst at a Kuala Lumpur bank wanted to understand and eventually contribute to the data science work happening in her organisation. She had not studied mathematics since university and was uncertain her background was sufficient for the applied programme.

She completed the five-week mathematics course first, then enrolled in the following applied programme cohort. By the time the programme began, the mathematical vocabulary was in place and the team's scoping work benefited directly from her domain knowledge in credit risk.

Her team built a credit scoring pipeline that documented its feature engineering and evaluation choices fully. She subsequently led an internal presentation on model evaluation standards, drawing on the frameworks developed during the programme.

Understanding Before Procurement

Public sector · 4 weeks · Evening Talk Series

A director in a government ministry was preparing for a procurement process involving AI tools from multiple vendors. She wanted a clearer understanding of what questions to ask and what claims to be sceptical of, without committing to a long programme.

She attended all four sessions of the evening series and found the public sector session — and the discussion it generated — directly applicable. The governance and accountability frameworks covered gave her a structured way to evaluate vendor proposals.

She entered the procurement process with a set of evaluation questions that her team had not previously considered. The discussion record from the series became an internal reference document circulated to three colleagues before the final decision.

An Engineering Team That Had Not Built AI Before

Logistics sector · 16 weeks · Applied Programme

A small engineering team at a logistics firm wanted to explore demand forecasting using AI. They had strong programming backgrounds but had not gone through the end-to-end problem-scoping-to-deployment process that a real system requires.

Three team members enrolled in the same applied programme cohort. Working on the same problem with a shared mentor allowed them to use the programme structure as a framework they could adapt to their actual deployment after the course.

The team produced a demand forecasting system with full documentation of its data preparation and evaluation approach. Within three months of completion, a version of the system was running in a pilot capacity at their firm.
